This role is part of Aon Impact Forecasting team, a team of scientists, developers and client services colleagues together developing and supporting catastrophe models for various perils including flood, windstorm, earthquake, wildfire or terrorism.
We are looking for a new colleague to join Catastrophe Insight - a team of experts who work towards better understanding of historical, ongoing and future natural disasters by providing advisory and scientific context related to our data and solutions.
What you will do:
- Work closely with Catastrophe Insight team to monitor global natural disasters and prepare Catastrophe Reports - take a peak at https://aon.io/42PbJ9d
- Conduct research to strengthen Aon’s historical natural disaster loss database
- Develop and conduct statistical analysis to determine natural disaster loss trends and indexation of historical disaster losses
- Aid in the development and deployment of automated, real-time catastrophe model solutions that inform our clients about impacts of ongoing natural disasters
- Provide bespoke disaster-related analyses to colleagues, brokers and clients
- Participate on integration of climate change research into actionable solutions for Impact Forecasting & Aon
We are looking for a technical person with interest in natural disasters, who would like to grow as an expert in the field that applies earth sciences in the re/insurance industry. We value innovation, independence and the ability to explain scientific context and technical details in an understandable way.
To apply for this offer, you should have:
- Degree in Meteorology or a related Earth Science field
- Understanding of global weather & climate trends, numerical weather models and remote sensing data
- Technical writing and editing skills & the ability to communicate clearly in a written and verbal manner
- Analytical skills with a background in data analysis, interpretation and delivery of statistical information
- Familiarity with Python, R and SQL is an advantage
- Prior exposure or familiarity with the insurance industry or catastrophe modelling is an advantage
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, ArcGIS/QGIS, Adobe Suite, Tableau, etc.
